Central Coast Explorer

Some of my regular riding buddies met me in California this past May for a few days of riding and other mischief. We started in Taft California as it was a convenient and inexpensive meeting place to start the ride.

Not far out of Taft is Hwy 58 which is one of the Golden States great motorcycle roads. We took that over to the coast and Hwy 1 on some of the best “low traffic” twisties around!

As we got closer to Paso Robles we got into wine country which is not only scenic but begins to offer some good food options for a rural area.

Further on at the coast we headed up Hwy 1 as far as we could. We knew the the Hwy has been closed to the north for almost two years now, but we thought that we should ride whatever of it was open.

We stayed for a couple of nights in the coastal town of Cambria which was our base camp for day rides around the coast. Cambria is a great choice since there are a number of good places to eat!

Later we went south down the coast to locations that we have been before. My riding buddies, Craig, Lasse, Joe and myself have ridden much of this area as long distance cyclists over the past 20 years.

On the last day we headed back to Taft, once again on Hwy 58. The great thing is that when you ride a road in the opposite direction it becomes like a new ride! A most excellent several days on the moto!

Go ahead, make my day!

There are good days and bad days in life. My personal view is that we are all given bad days occasionally that we must put up with. The good days however are most often made, not given. We should all try and make more good days!
